Plymouth Youth Concert Band

The Plymouth Youth Concert Band, currently numbers some 29 young wind players. The band is directed by Barrie Mills, Deputy Head of Plymouth Youth Music Service and former Director of Music of the Plymouth Royal Marines Band assisted by Dennis Frere-Smith. Players of any wind band instrument, of Grade II standard or above, are welcome to come along. The band repertoire, which is constantly updated, includes traditional band music, music from movies and shows and challenging contemporary pieces. The band performs regularly in public and they have played recently at Home Park for a Plymouth Argyll game and also supported Plymouth City Council at many prestigious events. They perform regular concerts for both local and national charities. Recent appearances include Plymouth Pavilions for the 2016 Festival of Remembrance, Christmas music at Sainsbury’s at Marsh Mills and they shared the stage with the Plymouth Music Of The Night choir on Saturday 17th December in Methodist Central Hall, Plymouth for a spectacular Christmas concert. The band rounded off this years PMEH Musicality concert earlier this month with a fantastic performance that had the audience on their feet.
