The Committee and Trustees at Soundhouse Brass are pleased to announce that Paul Norley, MA(Class. Studies), BA(Mus), LRSM, LDBBA, CNCB, MCGI has accepted the position of Musical Director of the Soundhouse Academy Band and has already started working with us. Paul is no stranger to many in the brass banding and military banding circles, with a wealth of skills and experience under his belt. ![]()
Paul’s banding roots are with the Totnes Band, Devon where from the age of eight he learned to play the cornet and tenor horn. Paul joined the army on leaving school and enlisted into the Band of the Junior Leaders Regt., Royal Armoured Corps. Here he also took the opportunity to learn clarinet, saxophone and violin. ![]()
During his extensive career, Paul played with the Band of the Royal Lancers and was selected to take the Bandmaster’s Course at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall. He has since then held the position of Bandmaster of the Band of the Light Division; Director of Music: Band of the Royal Irish Regiment; Director of Music: The Band of the King’s Division; Director of Music at The Brigade of Ghurkas and latterly held the same post for the Band of the Coldstream Guards. He is also continuing his role as Musical Director of the National Youth Marching Band.![]()
Alongside his army career, Paul also led Hungerford Town Band for two years, contesting with both Thames Brass and Verwood Concert Brass. He is a regular adjudicator at UK Regional contests as well as local contests across the UK and overseas. ![]()
We at Soundhouse Brass, are very fortunate that Paul has agreed to join us and share something of his skills and experience – he is passionate about supporting the development of young players, and is particularly keen to be able to support young people who may be considering a musical career, or progressing into our senior band.![]()
A friendly welcome is offered to new members. Please get in contact via this page, or email soundhousebrass@gmail.com if you would like to learn more about coming to join us.
