Plymouth Youth Concert Band

plymouth youth concert band

The Plymouth Youth Concert Band is the city’s premier ensemble for young wind players, currently numbering some 35 members. Established in 2005, the band is directed by Barrie Mills, former Director of Music of the Plymouth Royal Marines Band. Players of any wind band instrument, of Grade III standard or above, are welcome to come along. The band repertoire includes traditional band music, music from movies and shows and challenging contemporary pieces.

The band performs regularly in public including regular city centre appearances. They have supported Plymouth City Council at several prestigious events including Armed Forces Day and the Festival of Remembrance. More recently, they performed a Christmas music programme in the Piazza and at a PMEH Ensembles concert held at Marjon University in April 2022. Public performances are at the heart of the band’s ethos to provide real musical experiences for young musicians and the band has a regular programme of concerts throughout the year.

The band meets on Wednesday evenings in term time from 5.30-7pm at The Soundhouse, Tor Bridge High School, Miller Way, Estover, Plymouth PL6 8UN.
